NEC Model CDR-260 C D Drive


Starting Condition


Back of Original CD

  • Remove 4 mounting screws on top and 1 on back. Back screw retains grounding tab.
  • Pull cover up and back, depressing plastic tab of front plastic cover. Retain cover.


Removing cover

  • Remove 2 printed wiring board mounting screws 1 on each side (holes have radial lines).

  • Green printed circuit board

  • Remove front panel by depressing the tab on each side. Retain plastic front cover.
  • Remove green printed wiring board. Unplug 3-wire connector and 30 conductor wiring strip.
    Discard green printed wiring board.

  • Disconnecting wires

  • Remove 4 mounting screws, 2 on each side. Retain screws.

  • Side screws

  • Pull assembly away from aluminum base. Retain base.

  • Removal from housing

  • Remove 4 screws from CD rotation drive cover plate. Discard plate and screws.

  • Screws to remove CD holder

  • Remove black screw holding plastic spring-loaded arm and discard.
  • Move CD tray by moving white gear teeth counterclockwise. Extend tray to end on travel.

  • White gear to expel tray


    Tray moved out

  • Remove 3 black screws that hold CD rotation drive and remove drive assembly and discard.

  • CD Rotation drive pulled out

  • Turn drive over and clip 3 wires at front and 2 at back. Clip wires close to board assembly.

  • Cutting wires

  • On topside, remove 2 screws, 1 retains small aluminum clip and 1 black with a black washer.

  • Screws to release tray

  • Remove black plastic part with rod that extends into white gear assembly. Discard part.

  • Removal of plastic part

  • Turn assembly over, lift plastic tab on side away from white drive gear, and pull tray out. Discard tray.

  • Lift tab to release

  • Turn assembly over; remove black screw that retains limit switch assembly. Do not remove brass screw that holds retainer plate. Discard limit switch assembly.

  • Limit switch removal


    CD Drive is now disassembled.
